Whilst on your vacation in Madeira, there are many things do to and see around the island. There is something for everyone, young or old. Madeira is probably best known for its abundance of flowers, exotic plants and dramatic landscapes, simply a nature lover’s paradise. But for the more energetic the island can be an exciting playground particularly in extreme sports.
Gardens and Museums– There are many beautiful gardens to explore and museums that look at the History and Culture of the island. In Funchal there are several free parks as well as a promenade that follows the coastal route from the city to the outskirts of Camera do lobos
Rambling and Walking– A network of water irrigation channels called Levadas are unique to Madeira and provide a natural source for watering, which covers the entire island. With over 2000kms of levadas and 30kms of tunnels makes this island an attractive place for ramblers who can walk alongside them on pathways whilst enjoying some of the most dramatic and beautiful sceneries in the world. Most of the Levadas have been graded for walks and some can be precipitous so a specialist guide is advised.
